Introduction

The Border Monochrome Camera Club is a small group of amateur and enthusiast photographers who live in the Welsh Borders counties of Powys and Herefordshire. The BMCC is the oldest camera club in the United Kingdom dedicated to monochrome work and was formed in 1976 - incidentally the same year as Canon released their AE-1 model, which was the World's first SLR camera equipped with a microprocessor. The Club has therefore witnessed the steady transition from traditional photographic processes to modern digital imaging. Today our members continue to represent both approaches but share a common interest in valuing the appeal of a well-produced photographic print rather than just a computer image.

We enjoy regular, monthly meetings at the Burton Hotel in Kington, where we also permanently display our work for the benefit of the residents and other guests. Members participate in regular, friendly Club competitions and usually assess each other's work. Our annual competition in December is judged by a visiting professional and is held in conjunction with a traditional Christmas dinner. We also compete against other local clubs at various times of the year and regularly submit work to national competitions and salons.

New members are always welcome and will quickly benefit from the advice and assistance freely given by other members. Elsewhere on this site you will find examples of our recent work and also details of our forthcoming meetings . There is also some useful advice for potential members on how to prepare prints for competitions. We would love to hear from you.
